Viva La Bush

Well, Election Day came and went without pretty much anything notable going on. In fact, it was quite possibly the most boring election I can remember. Every state was predetermined by almost hourly polls, and only a handful of states were actually close enough to be important in the coverage. So we heard a lot of meaningless trivia about Ohio, Florida, Michigan, Iowa, and Wisconsin while the talking heads on TV attempted to fill time while they waited for something to report. Needless to say, I felt compelled to flip between Fox and FX and watch "The American President" instead. It made me sad, because seriously, the character that he plays would be such a better president, even though he's liberal as all hell, than either of the two jokers that ran this year.

So, anyway, long story short, Bush won, and Ohio as every predicted was the key state. At about 10AM the following morning, they finally called the state for Bush, Kerry sucked it up and proved he was a real man by congratulating Bush during a concession speech. Sure, every word of it was a lie, but the delivery was convincing, and it went a long way towards making Al Gore look even more like a loser, by contrast.

So, what's next? Honestly, no one knows. Bush avoided the quintessential trap of campaign and didn't make any campaign promises that he would have to break once he won election. In fact, he didn't say much about anything, and he got away with it because Kerry opened his mouth and said something, then said the opposite, then recinded both statements, then... So, the conclusion is that neither candidate was the worth the votes, and now we're left hoping something gets done about something during the next four years since the GOP controls the White House and Congress. Cross your fingers, everyone.
