Girlie Men

So Arnold called the California legislature a bunch of "girlie men" and now he has to face the music for it. It looks like Arnold is getting an education in politics, and he's getting it without lube. The comment was made in a speech in response to what he perceived as attempts to delay the budget proposal in order to include concessions to special interests. If you remember the campaign that got Arnold elected, two things stand out: Arnold's promises to clean up the government from special interests and a nearly constant stream of attacks on his character coming from the left. These attacks ranged for calling him a misogynist to accusing him of abusing women in his youth. Basically, if there was a name you could call someone, some idiot out there was using it against Arnold.

According to this article, Assemblyman Mark Leno (a liberal partisan who chairs a LGBT Caucas PAC) called him "anti-gay" and "misogynist" and implied that he "disparaged a group of law-abiding tax-paying citizens." State Senator Sheila Kuehl (D) called the remarks "blatant homophobia." Interestingly enough, she too, is on that LGBT Caucas. The only other quoted person in the article, another Democrat, said that he wasn't upset by the comment.

So, what do these quotes reveal? Arnold is anti-special interest. LGBT issues are considered a special interest. Two members of a group dedicated to that special interest came out swinging at a reference to an SNL skit with "homophobia, misogyism, and 'disparaging comments'". Might as well called him anti-American, as that's what they're implying. What pisses me off is that these terms are thrown around a lot, like the term racism, to describe things that really aren't hateful as the words imply. The fact that Arnold insulted a group of people who are being a pain in his ass while he's trying to get something done is nothing new. I insult people I think are behaving stupidly, and it looks like these liberals had no problem doing the same thing. For some reason, Arnold's insult was hateful, while the rest of the insults are not. Either way, Arnold's slowly getting an education into why politics work the way they do, and the reason is bickering and shit-faced obsequiensence to interest groups.

My problem with the thing is that a bunch of morons routinely find excuses to imply that conversatives are just haters. We hate women if we don't support abortion. We hate gays if we don't support gay marriage. We hate black people if we don't support Affirmative Action. We hate the poor if we support welfare reform. We hate Native Americans if we support the Chief. There is a certain mentality of being picked on, abused, and having a certain right derived from that to fight like a cornered animal. Frankly, I'm tired of this whole attitude. I've been called racist, homophobic, and a number of other terms personally by people overreacting to positions I've stated just as Arnold has, and it sucks. You feel like a complete shit when it happens because for a second, you think they might actually be right. Later, you realize it's a scare tactic, but it's an effective one.
